Congratulations on considering getting married, or are you interested in a Civil Partnership, or even a vow renewal? It doesn't matter which since I can help you with all of these....and more!
The information here is aimed at weddings but it all equally applies to vow renewal or partnerships. In fact it applies to anyone who wants to celebrate an event or a commitment in their lives. |

In Scotland today you can get married in several ways...
- In a church by a minister/priest signing the legal documents in the church on the wedding day. This is the most traditional type of wedding, but what if you don't attend church?
- You can be married by a registrar, in the registry office or a small number of approved venues. This tends to be a very short service and simply covers the legal aspects. All papers are signed on the day.
- You can be married by a Humanist, again, signing the legal documents on the day of the wedding. There is some flexibility about venues but they are still restricted. However if you want any religious aspects at all, such as a hymn or a blessing, or even a prayer... you cannot have them.
- You can celebrate your marriage with a Civil Celebrant such as myself and have ANY kind of service you want. Music, readings, poems, songs, vows...anything in fact that YOU want. The problem is, that by law only the first three above can carry out the legal side...so an alternative is for you and your loved one to go to the registry office on the morning of the wedding or the day before, along with two witnesses, and have a 5 minute legal service. Once that is taken care of you can then have the celebration of your dreams with a civil ceremony. This can take as long as you want and be in any form that you want. The venue can also be anywhere that you choose since the legal side is already taken care of. You can also have any vows you want - written by you or in collaboration with myself.
